Data API
A research API we are designing in the open
The planned US360 research API: the endpoints we intend to publish for state profiles, rankings, reports, resources and methodology. Nothing here is live yet.
API status
There is no key to request and no base URL to call today. This page exists so researchers and developers can see the shape we are building toward and tell us what would be useful before we commit to it.
Planned endpoints
What the first version would expose
Read-only JSON mirroring exactly what US360 publishes on the site — including the placeholder flags, so consumers can tell sourced values from unsourced ones.
GET /v1/states/{slug}State profile fields as published in the US360 state dataset.
GET /v1/rankings/{slug}Ranking positions, scores and the weights used to produce them.
GET /v1/reportsReport metadata: type, collection, author, review date, version.
GET /v1/resourcesResource Center listing metadata with official-source flags.
GET /v1/methodologyMachine-readable methodology and source registry.
Design principles
Rules the API will keep
- 1Every value carries its origin: federal, state, public dataset, academic, independent, or US360 editorial analysis.
- 2Unsourced measures are returned as null with a placeholder flag — never estimated or filled in.
- 3Ranking responses include the weights used, so a consumer can reproduce the score.
- 4Report metadata includes author, reviewer, review date and version so citations stay accurate.
- 5Breaking changes get a new version prefix; existing fields are never silently redefined.
- 6Attribution requirements match the citation guidance in Media & press.
Until the API ships, the same data is readable on the reports, rankings and state hub pages, with the source registry alongside it.
